SofLens® Toric from Bausch and Lomb are a daily wear monthly disposable contact lens designed to correct astigmatism, their unique design makes them exceptionally easy to wear.
Bausch and Lombs patented Lo-Torque design works to keep the contacts very stable so you won't experience interruptions in your vision when you blink, and the advanced optics of Soflen Toric corrects your astigmatism by refocusing the light entering the eye to a single focal point providing clear crisp vision. The benefits of Soflens Toric doesn't end there, made from Alphafilcon A, they are great at retaining moisture, and the lens surface has been designed to repel build up of deposits, meaning you can wear the contacts for long hours, whilst your eyes remain comfortable and hydrated.
Toric contact lenses are generally a little more expensive than your regular - spherical - contacts, this is due to the added manufacturing technology required and their complexity.
As toric contacts are designed to correct astigmatism they are not a one size fits all sort of contact lens, as you will notice on your prescription they require 3 readings.
Sphere (PWR)- This is the power of the lens and will be proceeded by a - or + sign, depending whether you are shortsighted or longsighted
CYL- This is the cylinder, which is a second focusing power to correct your astigmatism
Axis (AX) - Determines the angle of the power of the Cyl (cylivder)
As toric contacts require a specific placement on the eye, it is important that they do not move or rotate during wear, particularly when blinking, to enable this stability the manufactures can use one of three option
All of this adds up to a more complex lens manufacturing, and fitting process, resulting in slightly more expensive contacts.
Yes, astigmatism does not prevent you wearing contacts, but, depending on the amount of astigmatism you have will depend whether you can wear regular spherical contact lenses or whether you will need toric contact lenses.
As a general rule if your astigmatisms is below -0.75 Cyl then regular contacts will be effective enough, if your astigmatism is over -0.75 Cyl then you will be prescribed Toric contacts, these will require extra measurements ( a Cyl power and an Axis ), to correct your astigmatism and provide clear, stable vision.

Have been using these lenses for many years, would never change brand. Very rarely get dry eyes (sometimes when wearing lenses for greater than 12 hours) which are instantly resolved by hydrating eye drops. I find them very comfortable, easy to put in and don't feel them in my eyes. Would recommend them to anyone with high astigmatism.
I have been using soflens 66 toric for many years now and see no reason to change. I usually find they last at least two months (designed to be disposed of after one month) and are very comfortable. I don`t usually even notice they are there, unless I maybe go into a store or building with air conditioning which is blowing dust around. A very good lens which I would highly recommend!
I`m happy with my Purevision hydrogels (more oxygen), but when my wife tried them she found that her eyes felt dry, and they would get temporarily ill-fitting after a shower. Her doctor recommended Soflens 66 (I believe because they are a higher water content lens) and she prefers them and is very happy with them.
